Giving your Art to Family & Friends

Through out the years, I have given numerous pieces of artwork away as gifts. Mostly for birthdays or the occasional Christmas.

Creating a piece of artwork with someone in mind can be a bit tricky, there is the way you perceive that someone like somethings, and the way the person receiving the artwork will like somethings.

You have to get to know the person, little inside joke, habits, interests.

A piece I created a couple years back, was for my Great Aunts 50th Birthday. When she had begun her relationship with my Great Uncle, he had made a comment that because he was a monkey in the Chinese zodiac, he wanted no snakes in his tree. Little did he know that my Aunt was a Snake, by the year of the zodiac. and she had told him "it's a little too late for that, dear." So their little inside joke became an idea for my painting to her.

Giving an artwork as a gift has to mean something extra, has to interpret what that person means to the person who is giving the gift.

Snake in My Tree

(As you can see detail is not my strong suit. I have gotten better, but detail is still hard for me.)

"So their little inside joke became an idea for my painting to her."
